| Lovely picture! Essentially, the process looks the same - big brass (not allowed now by EU laws!) banged into side of cask. Don't think the cask orientation makes much difference. When connecting a real ale cask to a beer line (and thence to the pump), a similar tap is used but with a screw thew (or similar) on the end to allow for attachment. Interesting point (perhaps): are habd operated pumps ever used anywhere in Germany? |
