I think we only ever made it to Max's once while the beer was still a true Ampferbacher. Don't think I've gone back since. Hmmm... < http://www.franconiabeerguide.com/CityDetail.asp?City=Ampferbach > "Very good Kellerbier with some dry chocolate in the body and a very fresh, aromatic hoppiness. As good as Franconian beer gets." I'm intrigued. "Chocolate" isn't what I commonly think of when I think of "aromatic hoppiness". I shall have to investigate. Today! I'll pass on the Wednesday Schlachtschüssel though. Have cut back on meat consumption recently. Especially pig meat.
