One for Jason: this reminds me of the Tag des Bieres in Bamberg.  Do you remember the 2 pleasant young chaps with whom we shared a table for some time?  They came from some small town/village in the area that you're describing.  Don't think it was Weiglathal but darned if I can remember where it was.

Really nice area that we visited with Juergen on our first foray: Leups and Herold were really nice.
