| I think it's more a big city thing. I've had waiters in Köln complain about my tips. One said, "You're American, you should tip more." I replied "You're German, you should provide better service." And in Berlin, those places that have registers that will print a bill in English, usually have a big message at the bottom "Tip is not included." One place even said "Service is not included" which is not true and I understand to be illegal as well. The (German) folks at the next table left their bill on the table so I grabbed it and theirs didn't have that message. Precision marketing, I guess. |
