Schlenkerla and Spezial, Germanic-ish Beer in Kent

Schlenkerla has been ratcheting down the smokiness of the Märzen. Sad, but true.

Spezial U is not from a barrel, unless you count the fake barrel! Whether it's from a keg, tank, or "inliner" (keykeg-like, tankova-like) tank...anyone know for sure?

For me the Mahr's changes are "meh". I've never understood what all the fuss is about, when you compare it to Spezial U. As we've discussed here ad nauseum.

Here in SE England, I've encountered a couple of pale ales this last week, which have featured "lager" malts. I've noticed exactly {0} difference to other similar pale ales in terms of maltiness. Another Germanisation was a pale ale with Saphir at the Artillery Arms yesterday. Nearly fell asleep from the excitement!

Most impressive beer of the trip so far (leaving Wednesday) is the same one as on our previous two trips in the winter: Kent Brewing's Session Pale. 3.7%, light golden, dry, bitter, and citric-hopped to compete with the best of its "competitors" from the Grim North, such as Buxton Moor Top, any number of Mallinson's, and even the venerable Windermere Pale from Hawkshead.

(Have a few excellent pubs for J. & B. down here, too.)
