| Thanks everyone, actually, this would have been better 2 years ago, when the VGN was really hard to understand. But now that Bamberg has accessed to the system and the English-language page is so much more comprehensive, it's all pretty intelligible. I like the point about waiting at a Haltstelle for a bus to arrive that doesn't! Our experience is that the buses are pretty prompt (but check first for local variations!) and that the drivers are exceedingly courteous and helpful. Coming back from Tiefenellen, we got a start when the bus turned off just before Litzendorf, up what is essentially a farmtrack marked 'no vehicle access' (you know the sort of thing, Juergen). Strangely, we had taken that path on our walk down from Schammelsdorf, as it cuts off a big corner. The buses eccentric route actually saved us a mile or two and, particularly, the big drag up hill out of Litzendorf, giving us more time in Brauerei Knoblach (which we like, although others don't).. |
