Price of beer in LA

Gulp and Simmzy's are fairly upscale.The Daily Pint is pretty much a dive bar but in an upscale neighborhood (Santa Monica).

For an "ordinary" beer (under 7% or so) I'd say $6-7 a "glass" is typical. I've not seen $5 outside of happy hour or at a brewery tap/brewpub. But again, this is the pricey side of town as well. 

And California is a "three tier" state -- in most cases there is a middleman between the brewer and pub, which raises prices.
