I looked at the same thing just a couple of weeks ago. I reckon beers that would now be described as Kellerbier were just called Vollbier or Lager in the past, as many still are.

The book also shows that Pils was already very popular 30 years ago, but you still get people muttering that Franconians don’t/shouldn’t/can’t drink Pils.
