Quite and other words

I can confirm that as an American, when I say "quite good" I mean "very good" (actually a bit better than "very good").  I did not know that in the UK "quite good" means "fairly good".  So, in the UK what does "quite a bit" mean?  To us it means "a lot" ("much").
