My figures are only the two measures of gravity, Plato (%Stammwürze in German) and specific gravity. Your 1042 (42 "points") is 1.042 to me, and ~42/4 = 10.5P. You want complicated? http://realbeer.com/spencer/attenuation.html is about all you'll ever need to calculate alcohol content. And don't forget to correct for temperature--you have to know what temperature your hydrometer was calibrated to though. Mine's to 20C, Yank ones are commonly 15C I think. (Actually don't worry too much about this.)
