Barry, you've no doubt seen or even had the Wirsing (savoy cabbage) on offer at many Franconian pubs and restaurants. A typical preparation involves serving it in a creamy, rich sauce, which really does have cream in. Americans would call that 'creamed savoy cabbage.' Substitute spinach for the savoy cabbage, and you have 'creamed spinach.' (ObGoogleIt: well, you know.) The whole heart of this is a brief scene in the show where Spinat (spinach) is mentioned as the accompanying veg on one of the platters served at Sauer/Roßdorf.
