Forchheim

Don't know about all Christmas stuff (would tend to run a mile from Weihnachtsmarkt after experiencing the one in Bamberg) but Forchheim should definitely be on any itinerary. Ok, I'm a late convert but it's a lovely little city with 4 excellent breweries and some very pleasant pubs. Also much more compact than Bamberg - five or so minutes walk from the station/zob and you all the beer venues to hand (five or so more minutes to Greif).
