Had a bottle of each: Pils & Amber Spezial at Café Abseits yesterday. Both were clean, competent beers, if not stand-outs. The former is a bit too subdued, though by the end you do get a bit of nice hoppy flavour. The latter, "Franconia's answer to American amber ale" or something, would fit right in a chain brewpub in, say, Nebraska or somewhere without much beer culture. It's drinkable, but neither malty nor hoppy enough for a proper American amber ale. Thanks to Gerhard for the sampling of Hummel Maibock! It's a bit more impressive than the somewhat-too-sweet Mönchsambacher. IIRC that is -- and I may NOT, since I did end up drinking quite a bit. (No, really!) That Köln-brewed Gose-style beer is fantastic. Weyermann's IPA wasn't as impressive as other batches have been. Great pizza (Namenlos mit Gorgonzola), and Mrs really liked her veggie burger!
