| AFA "AIPA" goes, this I see as a valid distinction between IPAs made with English or American hops. And "session" IPA, while not as good as "half-IPA", is at least a reasonable pointer in the direction of what you're drinking: a really hoppy, bitter, low-gravity pale ale. Having never had a "session" IPA though, I'm only guessing that they are in fact brewed like really well-hopped low-gravity English blond ales like what I go on about all the time. "Black IPA" is of course, a dopey name for a beer that can be enjoyable. "India Black Ale" would be better, of course. Or that other PNW-oriented name. Brett- or white IPAs sound disgusting, don't think I'd ever try one. You'll have to emigrate to escape all that hyper-marketing, I'm afraid. Even dopier is Germans talking about "craft" beer. First you have to translate it, and THEN explain that it's a meaningless marketing term for "beer other than that normally found in the US in 1980 except imports". (Make that "in 2000" for non-PNW parts of the US.) |
