Accomodation in Franconia

There are loads of sites offering accommodation in Bamberg, Franken and other parts of Germany.  Generally, towns have their own sites, usually contained within tourist info.  I've found a lot of fewo on these sites, which tend to be more extensive than the general accommodation sites.  Bamberg has a very good site, which you can find at http://www.fewo-in-bamberg.de/.

The only problem that I've found is that a lot of fewo owners don't respond to emails - often because they are run by older people (like me) who don't have good English (like me with German).  I've taken to sending messages in German using Google translate, which may not give perfect results but works ok if you keep the message short and straightforward.  Of course, you may get a reply in German but Google can be used again.  I had a long conversation in this way with the owner of our next fewo and it worked fine.  Of course, if you speak German, you can also phone the owners.

Forchheim was really difficult as I could never get a reply from anyone, whether I used English or German.  Fortunately, our Erlangen correspndent kindly came to my rescue!

We've been to more than a dozen fewo's in different parts of Germany and invariably found them to be of a high standard and true to the pictures on the website (crossed fingers for Drosendorf!).  Unlike the British and Irish, German people readily complain when things aren't right and demand high standards - good for them.
