B&J in Franken: Report 3

Thought I'd sent this before but it hasn't appeared!  Anyway, yes, Held Dunkel was really tasty.  Should have said a bit more about Schroll (Juergen's favourite, I think) Dunkel, which is really ineresting.  Not too dark but with a unique, quite iron-y taste - sounds a bit unpleasant but it is very nice.  The Helles was quite good and quite different from the Dunkel - ok, it should be but often beers from the same brewery have something in common.  For example, IMHO, Neder's Schwarze Anna is like a Dunkles version of their Fassbier.  Only had Ott Dunkles - is that the Export, don't think so.

Toilet Cleaner aromas at Heckel?  From the beer or the loos?  Well certainly not the beer!

I mentioned that it was a bit gass, but, after a period in which all the beers were either U or the pubs (E.g. Wagner, Goeller and Hummer) had got the balance just right, we've hit a spell of quite gassy beers.  Surprisingly, one of these was the U (and the Rauch) in Spezial.  Remembering how good it was in September during a session with Frank and Nick, I was really surprised to find n overload of carbonic acid on Tuesday - really disappointing.  Today was our cultural outing - a visit to the Museum of Industrial Culture in Nurnberg . - very worthwhile and educational: never knew that Birmingham motorcycle manufacturer had a factory in Nurnberg and whatever happened to Zundapp?  There were loads of their motor bikes.  Anyway, finished in time to fit in a visit Schanzenbrau.  I think that I enjoyed it more than last year, although the beer was a bit gassy again.  J. really liked the Rotbier and I thought the Schwarz was pretty decent.
