B&J in Franken: Report 4

Why 'Speckguertel'?  Was pork production a major part of the economy?

Anyway, very interesting to compare with my home area.  My village has a population of only 250 but has 3 pubs but no breweries except Brewery Taylor!  I estimate that there are at least 20 pubs within a 10 kk radius and a population of less than that of Bischberg.

The low population (and falling) affects every aspect of the economy.  Within this radius, we also have 3 golf courses (10 altogether in Co Clare serving a population of around 100,000) and my local club is really struggling with a tiny memmbership (anyone want to join or buy?).  On the other hand, the great philanthropist Donald Trump (only slight irony) has just bought another local course for €15m., with great promises of jobs and prosperity for the area.

Anyway, now going OT, so will stop!
