Bier aus Bayern — Bavarian Beer Guide

So is the titel of the brand-new, 672 page guide to Bavaria's 550 breweries, from "Franconian Beer Pope" Marcus Raupach, of Frankens schönste Bierkeller fame. Read the newspaper articles about it here.

To go sample 350 breweries' beers for this...that's a serious undertaking. (I shudder to think of all that bland non-Franconian Lager, better them than me!) They do say that although there was no question that Franken was better than (the rest of) Bavaria until a few years ago, some new breweries' offerings in the Allgäu have caught up with Franken.

And there be smartphone apps, also for Frankens schönste Bierkeller.
