You tried to walk to those places in the woods between Hallerndorf & Forchheim? No wonder you got lost.

Seriously though, if you don't have a GPS (something I've had as a hobby-hiker since the 90's), then the maps (Wanderkarten) available are really well detailed. The markers are pretty well laid out, and IME correspond to the maps just fine. Except, there tend to be more paths in reality than are shown on the maps.

If you go without maps though...
