| Saw the daily Frankenschau live today at 17.30...lo and behold, it was almost immediately online at the BR library. Starting from about 9:15, there's coverage of the blasted event, including lots of banter about why it's so great (because it is, etc.), lots of lads and lasses in costume, and then the new mayor at about 11:00. He practised with three water-filled barrels at Kitzmann, then had a few fests to open before today, where he needed only two whacks to get the barrel tapped. After footage of the sloshin' o' th' free beer, he says he's a native Erlanger, which you can see by his wearing jeans and a shirt, not Lederhosen. After that, more footage of Erlangen in a segment dealing with Siemens monkeys worrying about potential job losses. You can see buildings where I've worked. The guy in question may in fact be the husband of our neighbourhood housecall-only vetrinarian, and at the end of the segment, you can see him biking along to the park by our house. Traditionalists will probably lose their lunch over how modern our 'hood is...not a centuries-old, creaky, timbered house in sight. |
