| Erm...the Anstich is where the first barrel is tapped and its beer is given away for *free*. So, free beer. Freibier. Not double the price. For the thrifty drinker, it's the way to save 8€. And it's a big traditional event with speech-making and ridiculing the mayor when it takes him 6 hits to knock the tap in. He reportedly took *9* whacks at his first such Anstich a couple of weeks ago, FWIW. That may well be a Franconian record. And this is Festbier, which is normally not available anywhere else, so the double price is not really comparable, IMO. You have to like being at a festival. If it's worth it to you, it is, if it ain't, it ain't. I go once or twice a year, just for the sake of it. In the case of Kitzmann, you can indeed get the Festbier at the brewery for probably 6.80€ a litre, so the difference ain't that great. Probably about the same for the Steinbach Festbier at that brewery too. It's the price of the fun of the festival. |
