| If you're looking for somewhere just outside Bamberg, the world is your oyster! all the following Brewpubs are open for lunch. We liked also Zur Sonne in Bischberg (just down the road from Main) and Mueller in Debring (clsed Monday); Goeller in Drosendorf is nice; in Merkendorf, there is the excellent Hummel (see below for Wagner). You could try Brauerei Kraus in Hirschaid, not far south of Bamberg. Just off an autobahn (not sure which) and very easy to find and park outside. A really excellent selection of beers, a nice garden at the rear or a pleasant bar inside. We haven't actually eaten there but there is a pretty extensive menu, reasonably priced. Probably my first choice close to Bamberg would be the wonderful Wagner in Merkendorf (closed Monday) - fantastic range of beers and excellent food, a nice garden and a very characterful bar, plus very friendly owners and staff. And you can also try the beer in Hummel but watch the ruhetag. In Bamberg itself, the easiest places for parking are probably Mahrs and Keesman in Wunderberg. Greifenklau on the way in from the north (?) is reasonably easy to find and parking should be ok. There is a fantastic view from the garden. Food and drink in the places within Bamberg is a little more expensive than outside. I'm sure there will be plenty of equally good suggestions, so your choice is hardly limited! One point, I've been watching the weather pretty closely and it's forecast to be pretty hot (24 - 27C) next week. |
