Bamberg on German TV this Week |

| This week's winner turned out to be the last host, who got a wholly impressive 39/40 points. And he's a Schornsteinfegermeister. Not one course in the three days we saw this week was veggie, FWIW. Surprised? Anyway, this show is not at all trashy or crappy, and in general, German TV seems to be blessedly free, to an extent, of what appears to plague American TV. With lots of exceptions though, I think. It goes to differences in culture as well as vast differences in how TV has evolved here, with commercial channels having only come into existence in the last 30 years, whereas US TV originated as commercial operations. I plead ignorance of British TV. When I see BBC documentaries here (dubbed), they look and sound much more like American ones than German ones, with the nauseating camera wankery (gratuitous zooming in and out, constantly in motion) and constant music in various styles going on without any rhyme or reason. And German TV is sadly, sadly lacking in "Sprockets" type bizarre character. No tourists should be spending much time watching German TV though, I suppose! |
