Short report from Bamberg weekend |

| Hi all, when returning from vacation (beer fest @ Antverpen and then travelling around the France - ciders) I have managed to stop for 2 nights also in Bamberg area. My first visit tu Zum Grünen Baum (Theinheim) was great. Kellerbeer is really tasty, probably the best from what I have tasted during my visit. Then short stop at Beck (Trabelsdorf) to taste the Kellerbeer, quality good as usual. One "Kiste zu mitnehmen" ... One quick beer at Keeseman (as we have appetite for it when we saw the bottles in the Edeka store :-) ) and then by car to camping (@ Bug). When our tent was ready, we walked to Wilde Rose Keller (Kellerbeer was average, however it is nice place) and also next door to Spezial Keller (great view, good beer, however I still prefer Aecht Sch. Rauchbier). Back to camping with Anruf-Taxi-Linie - this was my first try and it worked well. On the second day (SAT), we travelled with bus to Drosendrof and walked to Merkendorf (as on SAT there is no bus connection there), visited both brewereies. Quality great as usual, just Weizen @ Hummel was slightly acidic. Back to Drosendorf, quick Lager at Goller (average), and walking through the forest to Knoblach (both U and Marzen were great). Beer in Melkendorf was good, especially from the point of drinkability. In Geisfeld we visited Griess (Keller) in Gasthof and then also in Griess Keller. Unfortunately Krug was closed yet, so we walked to Mahr's (yes, it is quite long way...). "U" there was really poor. Also I didn't liked the service. I was also shocked that tapping window inside (on the hall) was closed, and only garden tapping window was opened - but they didn't had any beer from gravity barrels there (even "U" was tapped from KEG). Maybe my last try there, the quality is really decreasing. Btw, the rumours about the changed opening hours are true. To get better beers, we walked to Cafe Abseits, where Mönsambacher and Rauchmärzen from Andy were both excellent. Back to ZOB and Anruf-Linie-Taxi back to camping. Nice day, slightly longer walking (approx 27 km). SUN morning we just packed our tent, visited Wagner Merkendorf again by car (another Kiste zu mitnehmen), checked the quality at Hölzlein (@ Lohndorf) - really great Vollbier, got the Schnitzel and beers at Krug (@Breitenlesau) as usual, and returned back to Prague. Btw, Krug Breitenlesau has Urlaub from 27.7. to 9.8. if I remember correctly. Regards |
