Annafest and other stuff

We managed to make two visits to Annafest this week on Monday and Wednesday.  We were all liked the Brauwurstl beer and also Eichhorn and Greif and Lowenbrau.  Never got around to trying Hebendanz.  None of us cared much for Neder this year.

Having had enough of Annafest we did a walk from Drosendorf to Merkendorf to Memmelsdorf on Thursday.  All liked Drosendorf.  Hummel was very good as always and Wagner had already closed for its three week Urlaub (drat!).  Drei Kronen beers in Memmelsdorf just average at best but food was excellent. Ran into Scott Rankin again outside Hohn.  Went to Hohn Keller and it is a lovely Keller but we all thought the beer was lousy.

Yesterday we visited Roppelts Keller and once again it confirmed that it's still my personal favorite Keller. The beer was excellent!   Also walked up to Kreuzberg and had one at Rittmayer and then spent a good amount of time at Friedel (or the Kreuzberg Mcdonalds as Juergen calls it).  I think the place deserves some kudos as both the beer and food were quit good with the Hopfengold being very drinkable. I was tempted to try some of their aged bock beers but decided not to. We did a whiskey sampling instead. Again I give the place some credit as the owners clearly work their tails off and have a nice variety of beers, booze, and food to show for it. It does get very crowded and loud though but you can't argue with the success.

Other fun stuff this week:  had a beer on Tuesday evening with owner of Mahrs and he was nice to give us a brewery tour Wednesday morning,  met John Conen and wife at Abseits Monday, also participated in the degradation of Franconian beer culture (sarcasm) at Pizzini by drinking a bunch of "craft" beers from PAX Brau and Weyermann.

Not it sure what today holds in store.
