Hausbrauerbier

Hausbrauerbier is a historic tradition, where the brewer is allowed to sell beer that's not yet fully lagered (Jungbier?) to the public at a reduced tax rate, so for a lower price. You need to bring your own barrel, and you lager it X weeks at home. There was a fairly constant stream of cars and vans collecting barrels while we were there yesterday.

Tuesday is Hausbrauerbier day in Stiebarlimbach.

Ah, yes, that's where I read more about the history. It dates from the time when brewers mostly malted their own grain. Farmers who delivered grain to the brewery were granted the right to buy some of the beer produced thereof at a lower price.

I think it's very common around here. And it's different from Hausbrauerei!
