Cost of brewing in kommunbrauerei

To all the replies, I think yes and no is the answer!  The Echte Zoigl pages refer to the 5 Zoigl towns and, doubtless, the conditions vary a little from town to town.  In terms of history, Gerhard's summary is correct but a lot has happened since 1804!

Thinking of Eschawo/Neuhaus.  In Neuhaus, you could say that virtually everyone in the town has the right to brew (except those new houses around the new church).  However, as in Eschawo, I don't think that there would be too much trouble getting permission to brew with one of the 5 house brewers.

With Windischeschenbach, historically, there were 3 kommunbrauerei in the town and this spreads the net quite wide.  Also, in 1848, all of the town was destroyed by fire, so it is a bit difficult to precisely identify the houses with the right.  In addition, many of the old houses have been so altered that they would not be practical to use of Stube.  As far as I know, neither Gloser or Zum Posterer had historic brewing rights but were granted these in order to meet the demand for Zoiglstub'n.  Also, Weisse Schwan, which is a hotel, has been added to the Echte Zoigl list this year to meet demand, although, personally, I think that this is a bad move.

Re Falkenberg: both Schwoazhansl and Wolfadl are totally new establishments but I don't know whether they occupy properties with brewing rights.

Striclty speaking, I understand that selling Zoigl to outside parties is supposed to be outside the rules.  However, I know that it happens.  The briefest glance at 'Zoiglkalender 2014 für den Oberpfälzer Wald' reveals many stub'n that do not have breweries and, while some sell commercial produced beer labelled as 'Zoigl' (e.g. from Wurth, Wolfram and Schlossbrauerei Reuth), many source their Zoigl from Echte Zoigl brewers.

I am quite sure that someone who wanted to open a Zoigl stube in Eschawo or Neuhaus would have little trouble with getting permission to use the Kommunbrauerei.  As for the cost, I can't tell you exactly but understand that it works out at less than €0.50/litre.
