I'm no expert, and only came up with the idea that the season has arrived because they've suddenly appeared at the local organic shop.

Wiki says it was in danger of dying out due to low yields and onlybeing able to be harvested by hand, and it is easily confused (and substituted) with the French La Ratte variety, which has higher yields. Their photo isn't the greatest.

The Genussregion Oberfranke says they're harvested in Sept but should ideally be ripened until Christmas.
