Weller - die dritte Erlanger Brauerei

Right, Weller. Was a brewery in the city from 1811 to 1911. Then in 2011, descendants started having beer brewed at Göller in Zeil am Main according to the old recipes, calling it "3x11". The regular Hell is OK, but a stronger Dunkel is quite good. At that time, Herr Kitzmann complained loudly in the local paper about how this supposed "Erlanger Bier" wasn't brewed in Erlangen.

They may have always intended to open a brewpub here, or they may have come across the idea since then, I can't recall. They found a place to set it up, in the former Schlecker shop in the strip mall on the west side of the Hauptstraße to the north of the pedestrian zone. (The strip mall is, in turn, located on the site of a big former brewery.)

To raise the 400k€ necessary to establish a "Gaststätte mit Schau-Brauhaus" (Schau = show), they've formed a collective, so that anyone can invest and take part in the ownership. Months have gone by now and nothing's happened at the site since they put up the posters seen in the photos here. AFAIK, anyway. There was talk about the place being ready in 2015, but I don't know if that's on track or not.

Hope they brew a half-IPA when they do go live!
