Cask v Keg pricing

I'd also make sure you are comparing like beers: A 3.6% cask Mild will cost more to make than a 6.5% keg IPA. Lagers also are more expensive in that they require time in the brewery, reducing capacity or increasing capital outlays for more tanks.

The latter is not such an issue in Franconia as the tanks were installed (and paid for) over the past 50 years, not the past 5...

It would be interesting to see the wholesale prices -- is the pub applying the same markup to to the keg beers as to the cask? After all, with the cask the brewery is offloading work to the pub while the keg isn't.

Novelty and what the market will bear is certainly a factor as well. As Jimbo says, here we pay a premium for cask beer.
