Friday was lovely, thanks to you two for buffering us from the locals a bit!

Very nice to hear J's doing so well with walking. The Schammelsdorfer Knoblach...is opinion here on them divided? I've said I didn't find it outright *hoppy* like the Colorado operatives have, but otherwise very good. Worth a hike.

I like your assessment of the Winkler place from the outside. Inside is about as bad, yes, with linoleum from the 60's. And lines that apparently haven't been cleaned since the 60's!

Other walks...the possibilities! Fred's maps are not as easy to find as they used to be (or I'm an idiot), but you could look at r8beer's map centered on Bamberg for a start.

I think your Deutsch is good enough to ring a place up and ask "Ist die Gaststätte offen heute?"! They'd recognise you're not the most experienced speaker of their language and answer simply, I reckon.
