| The brewery Brauhaus Schweinfurt is closed since end of April. The brewery Kulmbacher has bought the brand, the last 200 hl in the tanks and all items. They step into the delivery contracts and take back the empty bottles and cases until end of 2015. http://www.br.de/nachrichten/unterfranken/inhalt/brauhaus-schweinfurt-insolvenz-102.html Since many years Kulmbacher pursues a strategy of regional consolidation, as well as many other large breweries in other regions. That means: they try to be the No. 1 in a region (Oberfranken), have different local brands (from Würzburg to Hof). The idea is to have decreasing marginal costs of brewing, to minimize the costs of delivery (short ways between the delivery points) and marketing and to have a regional monopoly in the competition (prices, contracts with pubs and drink shops; Kulmbacher has the chain Marktgrafen).. It's interesting that in Nuremberg another brewery (Tucher as part of the Radeberger group) has consolided the Nuremberg breweries Grüner, Humbser,.Lederer, Patrizier, Sebaldus Weizen, Siechen. Tucher, Zirndorfer. Now both (Kulmbacher as part of Heineken) and Tucher (as part of Rademberger) fight against each other. The fighting areas are Bamberg (where Tucher is sponsor of some local festivals, p.e. The Tucher Blues & Jazz Festival). On the other side Kulmbacher is sponsor ot fhe soccer team 1. FC Nürnberg. They poaching in each other's territory. Maybe the next battleground will be be Erlangen with the local player Kitzmann. |
