Melkendorf [different beer from bottle and barrel?] and Lohndorf
Posted by Michael James on 2015-05-21 13:17:31
I concur with Nick, the two times I visited Melkendorf the beer was one of the least enjoyable in all of Franken, wort-y and raw and smelling of tomato (DMS).  The reason for a second visit was to put such a beer in front of my friends Jeff and Ernest for their evaluation.  They were not very pleased with it :)

As for bottles, the 500ml swingtop bottles you see in Oberfranken tend to come from either Rittmayer Hallerndorf or from Goller Zeil am Main.  "Come from" meaning they are two of the larger bottlers who contract with nearby breweries to bottle beer other than their own, and (I suspect) to sometimes fill bottles with their own beer for other places to sell under a different name.
