Melkendorf [different beer from bottle and barrel?] and Lohndorf

Mosquit's reviews are fabulous. He knows beer, brews beer himself. On this board are people who've sometimes been brewing beer at home or even professionally (if not in the German system of 3 years' apprenticeship, etc.) for a long time, and can not avoid noticing when a given beer exhibits symptoms of problems.

There was a time in a previous generation's online beer forum, the USENET, pre-dating the WWW, when we talked about "beer Barneyism". I.e., Barney the purple dinosaur of American children's TV fame in the 80's and 90's, who sang about "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family", and everything was lovely, warm, and soft. No criticism allowed. We don't want to go back to that, do we?

All the discussion of various breweries in this thread so far.....Melkendorf. I have been there maybe 4 times in 10 years. I have no reason to return. The beer has been about the worst that I have had in Franken, each time: butterscotch, broccoli, and "uncleaned lines". Last time, I had two sips from my Seidla and wanted to dump the rest on the ground, but Mat W drank it for me, saying it was just "typical small German brewery beer".

The design of the house is irrelevant to me. In this case, anyway.

Yes, tastes and palates differ.

Some have said the Knoblach beers have been very "hoppy". I've been there twice, and have found them bitter and dry, but not really *hoppy*. Hoppy is, to me, something in the flavour and aroma, not just bitterness.
