Hi Jurgen, my parents live in Brittany (near Rennes) and I visit regularly via the short boat crossing from Jersey. It's interesting to hear your thoughts, whilst I agree that brewing in Brittany has improved over the past 10 years and more I would be very reluctant to say that their products are high quality across the board. Lancelot have a good line up of beers (especially their rarer releases) and there are a number of other breweries that produce solid beers- Correff, Dremwell etc. Saint Colombe are excellent, probably the best brewery and agree with An Alarc'h. Haven't come across Penhors, I will seek this out.

However, there are far too many brewers that produce beer that I can only describe as undrinkable. As for trying to find the beers from the smaller breweries, outside the tourist centres it's generally a visit to the brewery (which is probably shut) or a bottle shop. I'm afraid beer hunting in Brittany and France in general remains a challenge to say the least.

It's quite ironic that when I go to my parents I order Franken/Deutsche bier from Landbierparadies in Nurnberg to be delivered. I do buy some beer from French hypermarkets - Rochefort 10 and St Bernardus 12 :)

Of course the cider is good.
