Looking for Suggestions in Bambergland |

| You're already doing one of the good clusters that I'd recommend with the Nebraskans so I won't mention that one. I'm not sure what places you've already been to and/or how much walking you'll be willing to do but some ideas (in no particular order): 1. Ebing - Hofen - Freudeneck - Mursbach. Easy to get to. Short train ride to Ebing station from Bamberg. Mostly flat walking. First brewery about 1-1.5km easy walk from the station in Ebing village. It's been said that the brewery in Hofen doesn't brew anymore but I can vouch that the beer was very good last July regardless. Making it all the way to Mursbach and back may be a bit ambitious and require an early start. 2. Ebensfeld - Pferdsfeld - Loffeld (or possiblly Wiesen - Nedensdorf as an alternate route instead of Loffeld). Nice breweries but quite a bit of walking here to do more than 2 or 3 of them. Ebensfeld and Pferdsfeld are very doable though. Too bad about Martin in Unterneuses but you could stop at the gasthof anyhow and get some Hummel beer for a break. Last year we walked with Juergen and Elmar all the way from Brauerei Trunk to Ebensfeld via breweries in Loffeld, Pferdsfeld and the now closed brewery in Unterneuses. A challenging walk and took all day starting at 10am. But you can do smaller sections as I said. 3. Merkendorf - Memmelsdorf - Drosendorf: Biggest problem with this is I think Wagner in Merkendorf is shut for Urlaub while you're there. Otherwise very doable. We started by taking a bus to Drosendorf (stop right near brewery). Walked to Merkendorf (easy) then walked to Memmelsdorf (more hilly) and bus back to Bamberg from there at the stop across street from Hohn's keller. 4. You know about Geisfeld already I'm sure and the cluster of breweries and kellers there and Rossdorf Am Forst. If you've got all day you can start all the way up at Tiefellenern and work your way to Geisfeld via Lohndorf and Melkendorf but needs to be done on a Saturday or Sunday since you have to get a late morning start. Also the walk is fairly hilly in certain parts although more downhill than uphill overall and well marked. 5. Wagner in Kemmern over to Eichhorn in Dorfleins. Probably take bus and start in Kemmern and if weather is good visit their keller and I believe you can walk from there to Diller Keller and on to Eichhorn in Dorfleins. I haven't done this one yet but others have said it's perfectly doable and it certainlys looks it on the map. From Dorfleins you can walk through Hallstadt (probably stop at Fassla Stub'n on the way and take train back to Bamberg. 6. One that I've got my sights on is Unterzaunsbach - Hetzelsdorf - Pretzfeld. It seems easy enough to get started via train then bus. The trails on the map I've looked at seem pretty straight forward (not sure of the level of difficulty of the hike). It appears to be 3 breweries and a couple of beer gardens thrown in as a bonus (Metzgerie Richter in Hagenbach and Pretzfelder keller) if desired with easy to follow transportation options. 7. Possible interesting excursion could be Hirschaid to Schmausenkeller. Fairly long walk but there is the AST taxi option I suppose if you get tired. I've been puzzling over the feasibility of somehow including Buettner in Untergreuth into this one. This is where I start thinking about renting a bike after all as there is a nice cluster around here (add Sambach to the mix too) but a little far to walk and maybe not quite enough bus coverage. Hope this is useful. I think way too much about this shit. |
