Goodbye Eschawo, hello Franken!

Really, even Roppelt's Kellerbier?  I'm completely at a loss with beer definitions.  Seems to me that one man's Vollbier is another man's Lagerbier or Kellerbier or...

Of Vollbier, Steve Thomas says 'typically copper-coloured beer but frequently lighter or darker  ...The term is often used indiscriminately to describe the standard house beer'.  As most beer in kellers is served in an opaque ceramic Krug, it is usually hard even to arrive at the vaguest concept of its colour.  I've often thought of taking my own glass and asking for beer to be served in it.  Anyone tried this?  Maybe less revolutionary would be to take a small glass to enable identification but, then again, given Mr Thomas' statement, colour identification would hardly help matters.
