Franconia Beer Message Board

Goodbye Eschawo, hello Franken!

You sat in that sunshine yesterday, out there in that brick & concrete sun-trap? Crazy Europeans.

We got up and decided to escape the heat today by driving up to Kloster Kreuzberg, where we haven't been since our first overnight visit nearly 9 years ago. Indeed it was about 10°C cooler up there, but the beer was pretty miserable, even after having walked up a thirst. Fizzy, fruity, and just kind of a mess, not really malty or toasty like a Klosterbier of that colour should be, and for such a big kitchen, the only non-pigmeat options are Obadzda and Käsesalat. Both were edible, but as I then recalled from our previous visit, we thought the meat that time was very cafeteria-style.

So, lovely mountain top setting, very good room for over-night visit, great to be locked in at 22:00 by the monks, but then depressingly underwhelming beer & food. Glad we didn't invite you, but then we were already nearly underway when you were getting out of bed.

Buttenheim should be just fine.
