Sad, Jason.  But, a contrary experience: many years ago, my in-laws lived in Wetherby and I often used to go in the Crown in the High Street.  It didn't have such a good reputation and my in-laws were always reluctant to go in there, so my visits were usually solo, around 5 pm on a Saturday night.  The staff and landlord were always friendly and the OBB always good - and cheap!

Wetherby is just off the A1 and used to be a favourite stopping off point for NE football fans.  Sadly, there was a lot of trouble caused by these visitors (and probably opposing locals - it's just up the road from Leeds), so landlords took to closing their doors around 5 pm and, ultimately, the police finally banned such visits.  The first time I experienced the door closing, I had no idea what was happening but the landlord took the trouble to explain what was happening and told me, if I intended coming back, to go around the back and knock on his door and he would let me in!  That's what I call good service.
