What Ive found in the pubs we frequent is that barstaff are usually clued up about what types of beer are on(as they should be, of course), and are always prepared to give a sample. And if a silly name is what it takes to get the younger generation away from John Smiths then Im happy with that.
Manchester, which I used to know pretty well, was always an exception with its plethora of local brewers.
