| For those of you who have the requisit technology, Boris Braun has launched a series of apps covering all of the breweries in Germany. He is a beer writer and wrote 3 books on all the breweries in Franken (though I have never been able to buy 2, the third is hard to find). Whlst I have only had a small play with it it seems very user friendly with a map which can be used to select breweries and a search function, plus a useful calender of events. Each brewery is profiled with useful information and links to websites plus a separate page if the pub has a tap. There are also photos dotted around. However, although I have only had a brief time exploring, I have already spotted some mistakes. As usual, it's the nightmare opening hours. I looked at Mahr's Brau and he has it down opeing every day - which is wrong, as it shuts on Sunday afternoons and some of Monday (can't remember exactly, but point is the info is wrong). Of greater concern due to it being out in the country is Brauerei Zehendner in Monchsambach. The Ruhetag (Monday) is correctly noted but the app has it open daily from 9 - this is wrong as doesn't open until 2pm some days. These hours have changed in the past 12 months but still, being out of date at publication isn't idea, especially as an online app. These opening hours are a pain when they change but I checked the websites and found them easily enough so it is really rather poor that this app is wrong from the kick off. I also looked for Brauerei Wasserburg in Dingolfing (the beer I was drinking at the time) and couldn't find it. This aside, it is a useful app and at £2.99 for the whole of Germany (you can buy regions like Franken for 0.99p or something) it isn't expensive. |
