Don't know how you searched, but travelling via München is a detour. On weekdays you can get there in just under 4 hours with regional trains (Bayern-ticket) via Nürnberg and Augsburg, on saturdays it may take around 4:15 from Bamberg.
The other direction is indeed somewhat faster.
