OT: Kölsch & Altbier: Lager?

Nobody in Germany would call these styles "Ale", even though they are (presumably) top-fermented, because to most of the beer-drinkers "Ale" is an english "beer". But, a good Alt from Uerige or Schumacher comes very close to a good english ESB, nevertheless most of the germans would not admit that it is true…
