| I think there is an argument that the commercial brewers do promote Zoigl in the area - purely because they are in the region and people can visit to try the real stuff. My first 'Zoigl' was from Klosterbrau Mallersdorf - that did the trick. I'm not sure much of the flabby sweet nonsense that is passed off as Lambic is doing any of the traditional brewers and blenders in the Payottenland any favours however so it goes both ways and perhaps too much interference from snooping authorities may cause more problems and interference than would be appreciated. The Echte Zoigl scheme seems to be working well. As I say I'm more concerned with the misinformation issue - it's a bit like writing a book; you can quote any author you like in your work as long as you make the correct citation. Anyway it's not the end of the world and I'm sure it won't damage (or even raise an eyebrow) in the Oberpfaltz. |
