I dont actually see it as a Trojan Horse. Most of the best beer pubs up here in Newcastle have a range of craft keg in addition to their cask beers, but are absolutely committed to serving the best possible range of beers. The brewers of these beers(and most breweries do both cask and keg) are mainly young and again, committed to doing what they do the very best they can. A far cry, I would suggest, from the vile swill like Double Diamond and Whitbread Tankard we had to endure when I started drinking. Yes, the bigger brewers are trying to get on to the bandwagon, but its very unlikely they will be able to do it as well as these smaller brewers. Theres never been a better time to be a beer drinker in the UK.

Unfortunately the opposite seems to be true in Franken where breweries are closing at an alarming rate. Surely there should be some wriggle room for brewers to experiment a little outside the confines of the Reinheitsgebot? Though a Mango Lassi Rauch might be a step too far.
