Jeff has written that Maisel & Friends want to brew international beerstyles, p.e. a whit with coriander and orange peels, not allowed by the purity law. He asked for a new purity codex that allows natural ingredients, but no flavors, enzymes and preserfatives. He has organised a working group with brewers, associations and authorities to develop / discuss a new rule which allows to brew beerstyles with natural ingredients. Some background informtions. 2014 the Bayerischer Brauer-Bund (bavarian brewery assocation) has published a declaration to defend the purity law- http://www.braupartner.de/downloads/reinheitsgebot-bekenntnis.pdf Since some breweries in Bavaria got problems after denuncations: - a brewery in Upper Franconia was not allowed to brew a wht. They have brewed it as a coopative brew in Upper Saxonia - in the Brewery Camba Bavaria a "Milk Stout" was conficated - a brewery in the Rhön: a process has been set (a whit beer) - a brewery in Franken has until now a problem with a public prosecutor. Jeff Maisel is a member of the advisory council which has voted for declaration which is the base to denunciate the brewery that brew outside the purity law. Jeff Maisel has lived some times in the US. Since some years the brand "Maisel & Friends" brew craft beers (in the Brauhaus Binkert in Breitengüßbach). Now they have build an own brewery (25 hl) near the big Maisel Bräu - togehter with a craft beer bar/ brewpub). |
