Arrival in Bamberg |

| Just a note to say that I am now am resident of Bamberg. I have opened a bank account and will soon have a mobile. From Monday I will be living at 25 Luitpoldstrasse (above the Odeon cinema), a great top floor apartment with views over the city. If anyone wishes to meet up in Bamberg or in the region please let me know. I have been been doing the rounds and already been to most breweries in Bamberg. Spezi was, well Spezi, my new local. Schlenkerla rauchbier was good. Mahrs was excellent, a massive improvement from my last few experiences, good staff, great atmosphere and excellent beer, including the bock. Similarly, Keesmann bock was very good. I took a Sunday cycle through beautiful snowy countryside to Lohndorf where the Vollbier was as usual superb but Johannes has also brewed a helles rauchbier which was good. Tiefenellern was very good and Geisfeld excellent, the kellerbier was on top form. As as I write this I am in Kraus in Hirschaid en route to Buttenheim, weizen vom fass very good. Yesterday I was in Neder and the export was excellent. There was the usual collection of loonys present early afternoon, Henendanz was shut so not doubt it's own inmates had taken up roost in Neder to swell the number of 'eccentrics'. Great pub though. Havent had had a bad beer yet. Clearly I'm still in the honeymoon period. Look ok forward to seeing some of you soon! |
