Beer without hops? Yes in the old days before hops were "invented". In Denmark there is a lot of experimenting going on with hop-free beers. Heather, castoreum, spruce shoots, hay, blackcurrants, juniper and other substances will add bitterness and/or flavour. And don't forget gruit-beer, like Jopen's Koyt.
