OT Harveys Sussex Best again |

| Look - Harveys explains just exactly that -- two weeks: S  Harveys doesn't get distributed to Thanet except as a rarity. It does appear in Canterbury though, and as I was going there to meet our friend Ian (he's coming to Bamberg in early May, FWIW, when I might be gone to the US), I thought I should seek it out. And Harveys tweeted the names of a few pubs that might have it on, one in particular I've been to before, and have really enjoyed: The New Inn, a terraced house converted into a lovely old pub. And after we'd had a couple of halves of this or that, they put on a barrel of...yes...Harveys, right in front of me sitting at the bar. It had just arrived that morning, and yet was already ready. I abandoned my half of barely-drinkable Adnams Mosaic (just much too passion-fruity for me, but it is a clean, dry pale ale) and got the first pint from the barrel. Ian proclaimed it to be within the top 85% of quality that he's had it, and he's sampled quite a bit of it in his life. For me, it was a bit yeastier than I was expecting, maybe that's due to it being brand new. Not sure I'll be back to sample it as it progresses through its life. Then again, Canterbury is only £5.60 for a return train ticket.....it is a fantastic pub. |
