Pronunciation of Zoigl? German "clear L"
Posted by Uncle Jimbo on 2016-04-03 08:26:38
Wow, I never knew that German has only one L sound, as opposed to the two in English.  So, an L at the end of a German word is pronounced as a "clear L" (like the clear L at the beginning of English words).   This is very difficult for English speakers.  This explains why I was hearing the L in Zoigl not as a "dark L" as I expected, but as a "clear L", which is odd to my English-speaking ear.
